what i'm reading wednesdays

I about half way through "The Secret Life of Bees" and I am loving it!

I purchased My Life in France the memoir of Julia Child in preparation for my trip to Hawaii. I am not really a beach person ( gasp!). But I know the girls will have have fun playing in the sand and water, so if I have to lie there, I might as well have a good book to keep me company.

I became enamoured with Julia Child after watching Julie and Julia. I love reading autobiographies and memoirs, so I thought this would be a good choice. Has anyone read it? What are your thoughts?

Oh, and I watched The Time Traveller's Wife. Was it just me or did they not portray Gomez in the same way as his character in the book? I didn't like him too much in the book, but in the movie he was likeable.

Maybe I missed something?

No you are spot on about Gomez. The book and the movie were two different creatures entirely to me, both enjoyable though.

And I want to read Julia's memoir too...I love that you're taking it to the beach :)

I think the reason they portrayed Gomez the way they did is because it would have been too hard to portray him the way he was in the book - would have made the movie longer. Maybe they had a time limit?

And I JUST watched Julie and Julia YESTERDAY. It didn't look good to me but I ended up really enjoying the movie.

I haven't read that book but it looks fascinating. I will have to check it out. And I haven't seen Julie and Julia yet but I want to. I don't mind autobiographies and memoirs. I guess it depends.

Still haven't watched The Time Traveller's Wife but I have read the book.

I have My Life In France sitting on my bookshelf. It's patiently waiting for my classes are over to be read. That's at least another month and a half away though. As for Time Traveller's Wife and The Secret Life of Bees...more books I haven't read. Now, Kant's Critique of Pure Reason, I can check that one off thanks to class this quarter.
