who knew??

Who knew that a little bit of shaved ice, some flavoured syrup and azuki beans would be SO good?

We traveled quite some distance to taste the best shave ice ever (locals call it shave ice not shaved ice) from the M. Matsumoto store located in the North Shore of Oahu.

We bought one for the girls to share... but I think we should have bought them one each. They kept fighting over it!

When I ordered, I was asked if I wanted a "holder" when I paused to answer, the guy that was taking my order solemnly said "All the cool kids are doing it..."

Well, I didn't want to be one of the "uncool" kids...

But don't fret if you can't get to the best shave ice on the island, make some at home!! I plan to...

Any big (or small) plans for the weekend?

yummo! that looks dee-lish! i got a good tip on how to make a quick flavored shaved ice... 50% ice cream (any flavor) and 50% milk (skim, 1%, etc..). mix them together, and freeze... whenever you feel like having flavored shaved ice (specially for halo halo) take a fork and rake the mixture slowly - i had it at a friend's house last weekend, it was great! you can even have it by itself! xo, carla

It really is the best shave ice in all of Hawaii. I was born on Oahu and lived there as a kid, so I've had shave ice from many places. Matsumoto's far exceeds all of them. Glad you enjoyed it!

Is that dress from Old Navy!? I have it, and love it! But sadly enough I kind of botched a hem job on it so now I'm a little hesitant to wear it... kind of sad. Haha.

And yet again, your girls are as precious as always!

that sounds good. I've never had it with azuki beans. I've only had it chinese-style with the sweetened condensed milk, red beans and boba balls.

We're just heading over the beach this weekend! Then my little bro is coming up with some Korean BBQ which we're excited about!

(nor do they look near as yummy as those in your photos, seriously!) this is one of my favorite posts of yours ever, positively perfect in ever way. :]

and 'all the cool kids are doing it' totally cracked me up. ;P
