I picked up Little Bee not really knowing anything about the novel ( I was attracted to the cover...for shame! )
Upon reading the jacket cover I was intrigued. It barely says anything about the plot and coyly suggests that it is better for the reader not to know too much.
I often buy books without reading the jacket cover because sometimes, it does tend to give too much away. So more often than not, I read a book without having a clue what it is about. I like it better that way!
I also inspect all the books on the shelf and make sure I get the one that is in the best condition. If all the books happen to be "banged up" I have been known to leave and look for said book elsewhere.
On the other hand, my sister doesn't mind buying books that are not in near perfect condition. But she also likes to turn to the last page and read the ending.
Do you have any quirks when it comes to buying your books and or reading?
P.S. Hop on over to Sweet Symphanie and check out my guest post!!!

ha, know that feeling...i am a sucker for great cover arts as well!
Guilty! I tend to judge a book by it's cover sometimes. But mostly I have to read the excerpt and reviews.
i have to read the excerpts and reviews as well and i normally have to buy one in the best condition as well...as with everything else i buy. i think the hubby rubbed that off on me as well as to my kids.
I totally judge books by their covers. And sometimes I'll read a whole chapter before I buy a book just so I know if I'll enjoy it or not.
I tend to get books with nice covers :) Then again my favorite author uses Rodrigo Corral for his cover design so he ALWAYS has good covers.
I also like to find interesting places to read...I never just sit on the couch. I have to get a blanket and go somewhere fun.
I prefer not to know what is going to happen. I like surprises and the suspence will keep me interested in the story. Even if it's a really bad story, I'll keep reading just to find out what happens.
I picked up Little Bee last week! It's a great read.
I'm picky with my books too. I like them in perfect condition & I read the first sentence of the first chapter before buying. If I'm not somewhat intrigued by the first sentence, I don't get the book.
i've never tried NOT reading the jacket cover, but i will definitely do that with the next book i read!
now for my quirk... i can only read hardcover books! softcover is just too distracting for me.
I'm so glad i found your blog and can't wait to keep reading!
I'm reading Little Bee now, too! I'm a little over halfway through and it's already in my list of the best books I've ever read. Enjoy!
i'd have to agree... the cover is fantastic!!! can't wait to hear about it.
The cover is really interesting! And I have a habit of reading the last page before actually starting the book also haha. =P But I haven't done that with the current book I am reading though. :)
shame on me too... cover art is one of my weaknesses, that's why there are some hits and misses in my library - lol. but the hits are definitely worth it! i usually rely on recommentations.
so how IS the book? i need to get a new pick at the library today!
