i left my appetite in portland

 last weekend we packed up
our little family
hopped into our van
and drove 5 hours down south to one of our favorite cities:
portland, oregon
it's our favorite city for many reasons;
it's the home of my hubby's sisters' family
there is tax free shopping (!)
and portland is a city full of great eats

our first stop: slappycakes

an uber cool breakfast joint.... where you can make your own
pancakes right at your table
they had pancake batter flavours that ranged from peanut butter to sweet potatoe
toppings like chopped scallions and butterscotch chips
and syrups like lavender honey and lemon curd to top off your creation!

we didn't get too adventurous though... good ol' buttermik and choco chips
was the choice!

and pancakes weren't the only yummy stuff on the menu
take a look at the mushroom omelette!

everyone had so much fun making pancakes

and eating it!!

i didn't go the pancake route, instead i ordered a "toad stool"
a piece of toast with eggs fried right into it!

my mouth is watering just thinking about it!

as you can imagine, everyone ate every little bit off their plates!

and if you can believe it, that was just the beginning of our weekend of good eats
we ate from the famous portland food carts
made a midnight run to voodoo doughnuts (and yes the bacon/maple donut is delish!)
and indulged our sweet tooth at saint cupcake

it was such a heavenly weekend!
my taste buds are thanking me but my waistline isn't!

p.s. all photos taken with my hubby's super cool iphone 4
