the quest for the perfect pumpkin

every year we make a trip to our local pumpkin patch
to find the perfect pumpkin

and every year
pia chooses the first pumpkin her eyes spy
and zoe will take her sweet time
slowly examining each pumpkin, choosing one
and then a few minutes later, trading it for another one
that is "better"

i love this stolen moment--my baby sister joined us this year

this lovely white pumpkin came home with me

and finally after much deliberation and careful choosing
zoe chose this pumpkin--and i have to admit it was a pretty good lookin' pumpkin!

i must admit, it's not the easiest family outing
i remember one year, pia refused to walk back to the tractor
so my hubs had no choice but to carry her
and i had to carry four very large, very heavy pumpkins
through mud and very tall, very prickly grass
all the while trying to coax zoe to continue walking and not to
swap her chosen pumpkin for one that was "better"

oh, and another year we got lost in the corn maze
the year before that zoe fell in mud
um... you get the idea?!

but honestly, i wouldn't do it any other way

as a kid & an adult, the pumpkin patch trip is my favorite fall activity! this year, my hubs & i had a tough time balancing our two gallons of apple cider, two dozen doughnuts & two pumpkins- i can only imagine it's more a juggling act with kids :-)

hahaha i just went to the grocery store and had a clerk come outside w/ me and pick the picture perfect pumpkin! we spent like 10 minutes digging through them. i had him help me b/c i didn't want to lift the heavy big ones w/ my prego belly. i think we did find a pretty darn good one that we'll be using for our maternity session, can't wait!!

They're adorable! We went pumpkin picking this past weekend but there is a pumpkin shortage here because of a hurricane we had back in August. There wasn't much to be had unfortunately. Glad you got some good ones :)

Aw, Jozen. You guys are adorable. Our pumpkin patch experiences were busts the last few times because Ella wasn't into it. But we'll keep tryin'!

I love the pumpkin patch. We still have to take our trip and soon! My lovies tend toe be like Zoe-they're always trading-more than once! But it's ok-it's a very important task to bring the most perfect pumpkin home.

Pumpkins are not so popular here.. That's shame :(

Well, at least every year you get to have a real adventure pumpkin picking. I would have loved to get lost in a corn maze but the one I was in made it way too easy to get out.
