NYC must eats

i am by no means a foodie

but i do love food

(just ask husband)

and one of my all time favorite things to do while on vacay is eat

and by eat, i mean eat out

i love to try the "must eats" of the city i am exploring

during our NYC adventure, 

my taste buds and husband's

had the time of their lives

here is a list of why

recommended by my baby sis

the eatery is simply delicious!

try the mac n jac... you will not leave disappointed

the pork buns at ippudo are most definitely worth the wait

the ramen is pretty good too

 come early, this place gets pretty busy!

who doesn't love fried dough?

check out the doughnut plant

they have doughnut flavors from coconut cream to green tea to 

salted peanut to oatmeal

who knew these kinds of flavors existed?

pizza under the brooklyn bridge

the place that husband and i really wanted to try 

was just way too busy (almost a 3 hour wait)

 but we went to the next best and it was delizioso!

one of my favorite types of food is vietnamese

head on over to republic and have the pork chops

so so so yummy!

husband is a ruben sandwich connoisseur

you will find the best in the city

at katz deli

and don't worry they are open until 5am on the weekends

so if you happen to have a hankering for a ruben 

that late (or early!) swing on by!

i have a soft spot for this place ever since watching the movie serendipity 

(one of my all time favorite movies!)

the frozen hot chocolate never disappoints
and if you want something to go with your hot chocolate
try the meatloaf! it's Yummy with a capital "y"

husband and i ate at the meatball shop 

on our second to last night

if we had eaten here on one of our first days

i think we would have eaten here at least four more times

it was that good!

 you can't go to new york

and not have a new york style cheesecake!

my most favorite of all...cafe habana

the corn.. oh the corn

i could have eaten the corn for breakfast, lunch and dinner

if husband allowed me to

(he didn't)

which is a good thing because i would 

have never been able to eat all the other delicious food nyc had to offer
(thank you husband for being my voice of reason)

thank you nyc! my taste buds thank you

but my waist line does not

weekend snapshots: portland edition- day 3

 on our third and final morning

we set out early to grab some breakfast

this time around, the hubs and i decided to forgo slappy cakes

and try a new place called gravy

but when the girls heard this, they weren't impressed

and insisted that we go to slappy cakes

so slappy cakes it was....

in all honestly, i didn't mind because i do love slappy cakes!

it's lots of fun and the food is super yummy ( i told you i say yummy a lot)

i always, always order the toadstool but this time i ordered something different

the migas, which was scrambled eggs and bell peppers, 

red onions and tortilla strips

boy oh boy was it ever yummy!

after breakfast it was time to hit the road back home

but before we did, we made a pit stop at saint cupcake to get some cupcakes for the road

but they were closed!

but we spotted another cupcake bakery and decided to give that one a try

i like the name... don't you?

i ordered my usual red velvet

pia got chocolate with chocolate buttercream icing

and zoe got vegan vanilla with vegan icing ( i don't think she realized it was vegan)

but before we got back to our van, the hubs got distracted by a cigar store

(if you know him in person, please tell him cigars are bad for his health!)

so the girls and i sat down to patiently wait for him

but before we knew it, we had eaten all our cupcakes!

 

when my hubs came out of the store the first thing he said was

"where did all the cupcakes go?!"

opps! 

so  then we were cupcake-less for the ride home

a special thanks goes out to our favorite oregonians for letting us crash

at your place once again!

weekend snapshots: portland edition- day 2

day 2 in this lovely city started off a little late 

because we got in late from the movie the night before

the girls let us sleep in until 8am 

(that is pretty good considering they are always up before 7am!)

we had breakfast back at the house

but for lunch we headed out to the grilled cheese grill

 it's a food truck, but what is super neat is that they converted 

a vintage double decker bus into a dining area 

where patrons can eat their delicious grilled cheese sandwiches!

the girls loved the bus

but kept asking questions like:

"where is the driver?"

"what happens if it leaves and we are not done eating?"

ok... i have had many grilled cheese sandwiches in my life

but this has got to be the best one i have ever eaten

as you can see, hubs thought the same thing

it was seriously so yummy!

after our cheese-tastic lunch 

we went back to the pearl district

the day before we had stumbled upon 

the most esthetically eye pleasing water park you can imagine

it's so urban looking, yet so kid friendly and right in the heart of the city!

we wanted to bring the girls back because the day before they didn't have bathing suits on

after splish splashing around for a few hours

hubs and i hit up some more vintage shops and antique malls

once again it was like i had stepped into a brick and mortar etsy

and once again there were so many pretty things that could have come home with us

but of course we can't buy every pretty thing we laid our eyes on

but i did come home with another vintage brownie camera to add to my collection

(hubs has officially cut me off now)

and a vintage kitchen scale, which hubs actually found (he has a good eye!)

 i have been slightly addicted to kitchen scales since
my find during our trip to LA

for dinner we headed over to mississippi avenue

we wanted to try a little mexican restaurant: por que no

every time we drove past this little place, there was always a lineup out the door

and we wanted to know what all the fuss was about

um, can we all say yummy together?

the handmade tortilla chips, salsa and guacamole were absolutely delicious!

oh, and the tacos... the tacos

were like little pieces of heaven wrapped in a tortilla shell 

ok, i am being a little dramatic

but they were super yummy indeed and i have never seen hubs eat that fast before!

the girls kept saying

"this is what dora (the explorer) eats!" haha

kids are so funny

after dinner we did a target run because we don't have target up here in canada (gasp!)

and who doesn't love target?!

and that was  how we ended off our day 2
